Like English and German, Marathi too is a rich and old Indo-European Language and requires at least 6 levels of language learning. The Department of German of Mumbai University has taken up a project for Marathi Language Teaching. Following Marathi language courses are offered at the Department of German at Kalina Campus of the University of Mumbai :

1. Certificate in Communicative Marathi – Level 1

2. Diploma in Communicative Marathi  – Level 2

3. Advanced Diploma (I) in Communicative Marathi – Level 3

4. Advanced Diploma (II) in Communicative Marathi – Level 4

The course material consists of three books-

1) a textbook with a free DVD,

2) a workbook with exercises, tests and answer keys and

3) a Marathi Glossary in English and Hindi.

4) a Mobile Application on Android and Ios.

5) a Web Application.

My Marathi course book is particularly meant for non-native teens and adults, for both Indian and foreign Marathi language learners. It is prepared using an integrated communicative, task-based approach. It is a modest attempt to apply latest language teaching tools to facilitate the learning of Marathi systematically and effectively. It teaches the learners how to communicate correctly and effectively in Marathi by imparting understanding, speaking, reading as well as writing skills.

Though the books are meant for classroom teaching, self-learners too can make use of them with the help of the comprehensive glossary.

Computer and Mobile applications (Apps) for self-learners are also being prepared under this project.Similarly, short term courses for rickshaw and taxi drivers, nurses and bank employees are being designed.
